This quick video shows the process of repairing an Apple Photo Library on a Mac. In the rare event that you get an error when you try to open Apple Photos, you can try to repair it with this trick.

Just keep in mind that if you have a lot of photos or if you use iCloud Photos, the time to repair can vary.
